'Battlefield 2042' Reportedly Down To 'Skeleton Crew' To Meet Barebones Obligations

Industry insider Jeff Grubb has claimed that DICE has pulled back much of its Battlefield 2042 development team.

Battlefield 2042 is just having an all around rough time, isn't it? Upon release, the game was a bug-ridden and glitchy mess and even though those initial problems have been largely ironed out, fans are still majorly unimpressed.

In the seven months that Battlefield 2042 has been out, developers DICE have removed both the 128-player Breakthrough mode and the Hazard Zone mode. Updates have also brought in a brand new slew of bugs, including one which proved to be incredibly dangerous for those who suffer from seizures. You can quite easily see how things aren’t quite going to plan.

In an attempt to save the game, DICE have released Battlefield 2042’s very first season today. Take a look at what you can expect from ‘Zero Hour’ below.

Despite Battlefield 2042’s player base having recently reached an all time low, DICE have today launched the game’s first season but it could all be too little, too late. The ‘Zero Hour’ update includes a new map, specialist, weapons, and a battle pass. It may seem like Battlefield 2042 is finally expanding the game’s features but industry insider Jeff Grub recently claimed that behind the scenes, Battlefield 2042 now has a “skeleton crew”.

Appearing on the GrubbSnax podcast, Grubb said, “Battlefield 2042 is down to a skeleton crew to meet the barebones of their obligations.” As unfortunate as that would be for those involved, it’s hardly a surprise given the reception of the game. Battlefield 2042 truly feels like it may be beyond redeeming.

Publisher Electronic Arts is not standing for Grubb’s assertion though. In a statement, they said, “There is a significant team across studios focused on evolving and improving the Battlefield 2042 experience for our players, and at the heart of that is our team at DICE. We are committed to the future of Battlefield 2042 and our areas of focus for the game, based upon what we have heard from our players, was laid out in our recent Development Update.”

Grubb then responded to the statement advising fans to “look for the space where both things are true.” With the first season now out in the world, feedback should start pouring in. Time will certainly tell if Battlefield 2042 has in fact been redeemed or whether ‘Zero Hour’ will be the game’s first and last season.
