'Battlefield 2042' Refund Petition Soars Past 100,000 Signatures

A petition started by angry Battlefield 2042 players demanding that publisher EA allow full refunds on all platforms has rocketed past 100,000 signatures.

DICE's military shooter launched towards the end of last year to bad reviews and heaps of refund requests from fans who were unhappy with the state of the game. Between a myriad of glitches and rapidly declining player numbers, it's clear that most customers feel they haven't gotten the experience they paid for.

It's worth pointing out that Steam, arguably the platform with the best refund policy, almost immediately offered full refunds for Battlefield 2042. But because each individual platform has its own stance on refunds, it's very rare users on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC would all be guaranteed their money back.

There are exceptions, of course. Cyberpunk 2077 was so broken that PlayStation and Xbox changed up their refund policies specifically to help frustrated players. PlayStation even decided to completely remove the game from its digital storefront until it was in a better state. It was gone for the better part of a year.

While Battlefield 2042 isn't anything like as rough as Cyberpunk 2077 was, fans are hoping that with enough of a push they can enact a similar refund process.

The Change.org petition created by one unhappy player has raked in over 100,000 signatures in just a few days, and is showing no signs of slowing down.

"EA’s release of Battlefield 2042 was a mockery of every customer who purchased this video game for $70 (USD) due to EA’s false advertising," the petition's creator writes. "Battlefield 2042 has cost consumers millions of dollars in damages and upset thousands of customers worldwide.

"According to many consumer reports, Electronic Arts and DICE did not keep many promises made at launch, and Battlefield 2042 was launched as unplayable. Even today, Battlefield 2042 has bugs that drastically change the in-game experience so much that it’s deemed an unfinished release by many community members."

EA has yet to respond to the petition.
