Batman: Arkham Origins is finally getting a sequel after 11 years

Arkham casts a long shadow

The Batman Arkham universe is widely loved for so many reasons, one of which being that it was a perfect version of the caped hero.

If we ignore the mixed reception and calamity that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, we’ve not seen much of the Arkham universe for some time.

Batman: Arkham Shadow will be a full-length VR adventure for the hero

In fact, it has been 11 years since Batman: Arkham Origins. I know, we all feel the creaking in our backs.

Now, however, we have a new entry in the series in the form of Batman: Arkham Shadow, which was shown off last night at Opening Night Live from Gamescom.

This is an all-new entry in the franchise that sees Batman stalking The Rat King through Arkham while the villain’s followers cause havoc throughout the streets.

From what we saw in the trailer, there will be plenty of brutal fighting the previous games were known for, as well as lots of detective work, too.

With this being played in virtual reality, it will give a new perspective on being Batman.

Clips in the trailer showed interactions with clues around the environment that play up the use of VR, while fights will obviously take place from a first-person perspective.

If you’re wondering how this game ties into the previous entries, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of overlap aside from character appearances.

The Rat King, who is based on the Ratcatcher from the comics, appeared in the Suicide Squad film and is making the leap to games.

His powers for manipulation and leading people astray will surely test us all as we attempt to stop him from controlling the population of Gotham and Arkham.

Whether any other villains make an appearance remains a mystery, but we wouldn’t be shocked if someone else from the rogue’s gallery was present.

You can play Batman: Arkham Shadow on Meta Quest 3 this October.
