There’s no doubt that Banjo-Kazooie is up there with the very best games to come to the Nintendo 64. While Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time are probably the first titles that’d spring to mind for most people, the original Banjo and its excellent sequel, Banjo-Tooie, defined many a gamer’s childhood.
It’s been a hot minute since the beloved bear and bird duo have graced our screens, though (unless you’re counting the arrival of the first game onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service), with the questionable 2008 release, Nuts and Bolts, being the most recent addition to the series. However, as reported by Nintendo Life, after all this time, fans have created the new game of our dreams, and it looks spectacular.
Banjo and Kazooie also got added as DLC fighters to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - take a look at their reveal trailer below.
Thanks to Project Dream, we can feast our eyes on what a modern-day Banjo game would look like, and I think we can all agree that, fittingly, it’s the stuff of dreams. Titled Banjo-Threeie (which doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue) the fan-game has been given a gorgeous trailer showcasing its delectable environments, which you can check out below.
“The Adventure Continues! Banjo-Threeie takes place 22 years after the defeat of Gruntilda in Banjo-Tooie,” the video description reads. “However, for a third time the old hag is back and stronger than ever. She has gathered an army bigger than you could imagine. And she’s out for her final revenge!

“Battle your way through an inspired story exploring fantastical worlds collecting notes [and jiggies]! Be captivated by magical transformations into different shapes of Banjo [and] Kazooie to unlock puzzles and jiggies, as well as fighting an array of terrifying bosses to defeat Gruntilda and her army for one last time.”
There’s unfortunately one very large catch though - Banjo-Threeie sadly isn’t being made into an actual, playable game, so unless Rare decide to take some inspiration, we’re going to have to make do with staring longingly at this trailer and getting nostalgic over the N64 days. Sigh.
