Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the biggest success stories of the year garnering rave reviews on PC as anticipation builds for its console release.

Developed and published by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate 3 was released for PC on 3 August 2023, and this action RPG has taken the video game community by storm. Baldur’s Gate 3 quickly became the highest-scoring game on PC and imposed itself into the top 10 most-played games on the Steam platform, only to be thwarted by Hogwarts Legacy, so far.

However, as with just about any video game release, including Baldur’s Gate 3, post-launch patches are often required to iron out kinks. After all, you could test a game all you want behind closed doors or in early access, but until a game is released into the wild, you can never truly know the extent of any unforeseen issues.

Speaking of which, Baldur’s Gate 3 recently received a major patch that intended to fix over 1,000 bugs and glitches. Sure, that’s an extremely high number, but for a game that requires close to two hundred hours to complete and reportedly has around 17,000 varying endings, the patch notes list was always going to be very sizable.

What’s more, even with the best intentions of releasing a patch that aims to fix reported bugs and glitches, it can also be quite troublesome with unforeseen issues too. Unfortunately, the recent update for Baldur’s Gate 3 has fallen into that category.

Larian Studios has acknowledged reports that the update in question is crashing the game for some, going as far as making it unplayable. Furthermore, the developer warned that if you had saved the game since the latest update, you won’t be able to load those saves until a fix is made to the update in question. As a result of the recent woes, Larian Studios has rolled back the update to avoid causing further disruption.

It is of course not an ideal situation for a game that you’ve paid for to be plagued with bugs, glitches and crashes. Sadly, it happens. Thankfully, it does seem like Larian Studios is on the case and all will be resolved in the coming days. Hopefully.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is out now for PC and releases on 6 September 2023 for PlayStation 5, which just so happens to be the same release date as Starfield. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on Xbox Series X|S at some point, but due to technical limitations of the Series S, the Xbox version has been delayed.

It is speculated that the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 won’t be released until early 2024.
