Good lord, this Xbox Games Showcase has started with a bang, hasn’t it? After kicking things off with a brand new trailer for Fable and Ubisoft’s open-world Star Wars game, we’ve just got our first look at the gameplay for Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG Avowed, and it looks brilliant.

We’ve heard very little about Avowed since it was first shown off in 2020, but given that it’s being made by the team who brought us Fallout: New Vegas, I think it’s safe to say we can all get very excited about it.

Take a look at the new gameplay trailer for Avowed right here!

“Explore the Living Lands, a mysterious island filled with adventure and danger. As an envoy of Aedyr, you are sent to investigate rumours of a spreading plague with a secret that threatens to destroy everything,” the game’s official synopsis reads. “Can you save the island and your soul from the forces threatening to tear them apart?”

The first-person RPG will be coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2024, although we still don’t know exactly when. It’ll be releasing day-one on Xbox Game Pass, too, so those who are already subscribed to that when Avowed comes out won’t have to spend an extra penny to play it.

In a new post on Xbox Wire, Obsidian Entertainment’s studio head, Feargus Urquhart, confirmed that players can look forward to exploring the Living Lands with a number of companions, including the Coastal Aumaua, Kai (who’s also the person narrating the latest trailer). The former soldier is described as “idealistic and pragmatic”, and is apparently one of the “only friendly faces you’ll find”.

It might not be a Fallout: New Vegas remake, but Avowed is looking really promising. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to play it.
