Titanfall meets Halo in epic new free release, unveiled at The Game Awards

It's basically just Titanfall 3 if you squint a little

Huge news for people who love Halo and Titanfall 2 (but have made peace with the fact that Titanfall 3 will never, ever exist), as a brand new free-to-play mech shooter just dropped on Steam following its reveal at The Game Awards last night.

Steel Hunters is a “free-to-Play, PvPvE shooter with futuristic mech battles” by developers Wargaming, best known for their work on the “World Of” series of games (such as World of Tanks).

The game was revealed at The Game Awards last night alongside a flashy cinematic trailer. If you prefer your trailers to be a bit more gameplay-focused, a second trailer for Steel Hunters hit YouTube directly afterwards that will be a bit more to your liking.

If you like the look of what you see, then you are in luck, as Steel Hunters is available to play right now… sort of.

Head on over to the Steam page for the game and you’ll see the option to “Join the Steel Hunters Beta Playtest” so you can sign up to be notified once the developer needs more participants.

ICYMI: The Witcher 4 dropped its first trailer at the event.

Don’t worry about waiting too long to get approved though, as apparently most people who apply are being granted access within the space of an hour (according to a bunch of people on Twitter and Reddit at least).

Still, I’d suggest being quick about it as the closed beta will only be running from 12 December 12 to 22, so you’ll only have nine days to play even if you get approved immediately.

The game seems to be a PC exclusive for the time being, but don’t fret if you’re a console player.

Developer Wargaming always seems to release their games exclusively on PC before porting them to consoles later on down the line (as has been the case with World of Tanks and World of Warships).

There’s also currently no release date in sight for Steel Hunters, but we’ll assumedly hear more once the closed beta ends at the end of next week.
