Avengers: Secret Wars set to bring back some very unexpected familiar faces

Just when we thought it was all over, Marvel revealed more Avengers movies were on the way which leaves the question: which characters will be making a return?

Titled Avengers: Secret Wars and rumoured to be directed by the brains behind Deadpool & Wolverine Shawn Levy, the next movie in the long-running franchise is still a bit of a mystery.

Set to be a different title from Avengers 5, it has been rumoured that Secret Wars will be a 2-part movie so it remains to be seen how it will play out as development continues.

For now, there has been an update by insider MyTimeToShineH on Twitter and they claim that Scarlet Johansson will be reprising her role as Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in Avengers: Secret Wars.

However, she will be reprising her role alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America in Secret Wars but won’t be returning in Avengers 5. I know, it’s confusing.

Additionally, MyTimeToShineH previously claimed that Hugh Jackman would be interested in donning his Wolverine armour to play a part in Avengers: Secret Wars. He reportedly told this to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige under the conditions that Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire join him as Iron Man and Spider-Man.

Avengers 5 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on 1 May, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on 7 May, 2027 so there’s a bit of a wait until we officially see who will be returning. Not only that, who will be at war and why is it secret? Interesting.

For now, the original Spider-Man animated series may be making a return according to a recent tease by its head writer. This will be the first time he comes back to the story after being the brains behind the Spider-Verse concept back in the late 90s.
