Our Assassin's Creed World War 2 dreams come true in this new Steam game

Our Assassin's Creed World War 2 dreams come true in this new Steam game

Dreams do come true

Assassin's Creed has unlimited potential thanks to its central timey wimey sci-fi conceit, but fans are especially keen to see Ubisoft take the series back to World War II.

It's not that we're greedy, and we do know it's a great time to be a fan of Assassin’s Creed. Last year's Assassin’s Creed Mirage took the franchise back to its stealth-based roots, while next year's Codename Red is sounding better and better. There's plenty on the horizon, but no signs of a World War II game. Fortunately, there is something that'll scratch that itch.

There's a small chance you've heard of The Saboteur, an open-world game developed by Pandemic Studios and publisher by EA which originally released back in 2009. To be honest, it's not a game many people talk about these days, and it quickly faded into obscurity. A pity, given it's the closest we've ever actually gotten to an Assassin's Creed WWII game.

The good news is The Saboteur is one of the many games EA recently added to Steam, and an entirely new audience is discovering that, actually, it kind of slaps.

The Saboteur is a heady mix of Assassin's Creed and Grand Theft Auto, with a dash of Watch Dogs thrown in. Check out the official Steam description below to get your head around what it's offering.

"This open-world action thriller takes you through the seedy streets of Paris as you seek to undermine the German authority and lead a rebellion. Fight across rooftops and through dangerous alleys, and operate a wide variety of vehicles as you navigate your terrain."

As long as you go into with an open mind and the knowledge this is a game that came out 15 years ago (sweet Christ I'm getting old), you might actually be surprised how much fun you have with it. Certainly, the majority of Steam reviews are raving about this hidden gem. Oh, and it's currently 50 percent off so you can pick it up for less than a fiver.
