Assassin's Creed Visionaries announced, will take series to 1970s for the first time

There are practically a bajillion Assassin’s Creed projects in the works right now. Well, okay. Maybe there aren’t a bajillion, but there are rumoured to be at least 11 games in development over at Ubisoft.

The next major release on the way is Assassin's Creed Mirage which is set to be released on 12 October. The game is set in ninth century Baghdad and features Valhalla’s Basim. You’ll be pleased to know that it’s a return to Assassin’s Creed stealth-based roots, and features the smallest map in years. Following on from that, Ubisoft will release the free-to-play Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade which will take players back to second century BC China, while Ezio Auditore will then return in Assassin’s Creed Nexus. Insiders also recently teased that a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag may be in the works which would be exciting. On top of all this, it’s been unveiled that a new Assassin's Creed comic book series will take us to 1970s Brazil.

As reported by The Pop Verse, Assassin’s Creed Visionaries has officially been announced and will launch in November 2023. It’s an anthology series set across time, with each story featuring new assassins that have never been seen before in either the comics or games. The first issue will take readers to 1970s Brazil - and it sounds like a pretty dark story. A revolutionary fighter is captured amidst the country’s brutal dictatorial rule and is sent to a military site known as the Torture Rooms. The story features art by Rafael Albuquerque, writing by Ale Santos, with additional work by colourist Marcelo Maiolo.

The second issue will jump to an unknown time in the near-future, where the Templars set out to destroy the Brotherhood once and for all. This issue is by writer and artist Stéphane Louis and colourist Vera Daviet. The remaining issues feature work by Enrico Marini, Mahmud Asrar, Olivier Vatine, Yanick Paquette, Niko Henrichon, Jonboy Meyers, and more.

Ubisoft has teamed up with Massive Publishing and Studio Lounak to create the comic book series, ensuring that these stories tie in with the lore established in the main gaming series. We can’t wait for the first issue to drop in November.
