Purchasing a coffee in the year 2025 is no easy task, especially with the prices of our favourite vices increasing on what seems like a monthly basis.
However, when it comes to purchasing the latest AAA title, the task is even more extreme with major studios demanding at least £60 for some of its newest software.
With prices for both software and hardware expected to keep increasing and yet the cost of living crisis affecting us all, major changes are going to have to be made in the gaming industry.
That being said, it seems as though Ubisoft has already taken this into account, even if it is for a game many of us did not ask for.

Spotted by NikTek over on Twitter, Skull and Bones - Standard Edition is now just $6 on the Ubisoft Store which is definitely less than your Starbucks order.
First released back in 2024, Skull and Bones was rumoured to be the first AAAA video game, according to Ubisoft but within weeks of its launch, it was clear to see that this was not the case.
Taking place during the Golden Age of Piracy, players would embark on an adventure dedicated to piracy and naval warfare in the fantastical setting of East Africa and Southeast Asia during the late 17th century.
Developed by Ubisoft Singapore, Skull and Bones was expected to revolutionise the genre but following multiple delays and developmental issues, the “AAAA” title was considered a flop.

So much so that it now sits at a 3.3 user rating over on Metacritic.

Judge it for yourself
It seems as though, up until now, Ubisoft has tried to sweep Skull and Bones under the rug in the hopes that the studio would not be remembered for it.

However, with this latest $6 deal, the developers may want to at least bring a new playerbase to the sea-based action-adventure title.
After all, enjoying a video game can be subjective and who knows? Maybe Skull and Bones offers gameplay that you are looking for and with it now costing less than a cup of coffee, it may be worth making the splash and trying it out for yourself.
However, the arrival of Skull and Bones just made players think of another naval title.
“They need to pull what EA did with Battlefield 6 and just go back to what people love.

Yes.... BLACK FLAG 2!!” One user suggested.
It was inevitable that Skull and Bones would be compared to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag with the latter widely regarded as one of the best video games of all time.
However, with Skull and Bones falling short, we can at least hope that it has inspired Ubisoft to give the fans what they really want.
