‘Assassin’s Creed Infinity’ Is The Snyder Cut Of The Series, Says Leaker

‘Assassin’s Creed Infinity’ Is The Snyder Cut Of The Series, Says Leaker

Infinity is shrouded in secrecy at the moment.

According to a leaker, Assassin’s Creed Infinity is going to remove or retell the parts of the series that aren’t so popular with fans in order to work with a clean slate for returning and new players.

This comes from a source on 4chan. I know, I know. Here’s the thing — the claims are pricking up the ears of fans as they address some of the issues that they have had with Assassin’s Creed for some time now. Before we hold our noses and dive straight into the post, let’s recollect what we know about Infinity already.

It’s a collaborative endeavour between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec and will see executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté direct the live-service style title. “Assassin’s Creed was born within the walls of Ubisoft Montreal and the studio built an incredible foundation for the franchise with the immense skill and creativity of its teams before Ubisoft Quebec then took the lead with Assassin’s Creed Syndicate and Odyssey, demonstrating its ability to drive the franchise even further,” said Ubisoft in an announcement from summer.

Here's some fantastic wins and fails from Assassin's Creed Valhalla below!

I say “live-service style” there because it is confirmed that players will be shelling out for Infinity. “It’s going to be a very innovative game but it will have what players already have in all the Assassin’s Creed games, all the elements that they love to get in them right from the start,” explained CEO Yves Guillemot, with chief financial officer Frédérick Duguet adding that Infinity “is still at an early stage of development.”

Right. While bearing in mind where we’ve gotten this scoop, let’s get into what is being said about the content of Infinity. Fans are ever so preoccupied with when and where the series should take them, and this asserts that the base game will feature the Ottoman, Safavid and Mughal empires in the 1700s. These empires were spread out over what we know to be Turkey, Iran and India today.

Subsequent updates will add new cities and eras for free along the lines of a live-service structure. Most curiously though is the claim that Infinity is a reboot of Assassin’s Creed and will discard the parts of its canonical history that are unpopular with players. “Many of the defining moments of the series will remain the same but conflicting events or stories that are widely disliked will either be retold or removed entirely from the new continuity,” concluded the leaker.

If there’s one thing that Assassin’s Creed players have, it’s opinions and a lot of them. We aren’t impervious to it — we’ve ranked the best games, heroes and open worlds in the series, and there have been some significant changes since the original game came out. So the concept that the most controversial moments in the games would be changed in the interest of continuity and player opinions, well, Infinity is sounding a lot like the Snyder cut of Assassin’s Creed.

One person astutely points out that Valhalla has sold more copies in its first week than any other game in the series, so it’s strange that Ubisoft would start from scratch following such a success. And, you know, it is someone on 4chan saying these things. It’s certainly stirring conversation on social media though, so we’ll let you know when we hear more about Assassin’s Creed Infinity
