New Assassin's Creed game starring Ezio coming in November

The world's favourite assassin is back

One of gaming's favourite assassins is back. Ezio of Assassin's Creed 2 fame is coming to VR in Assassin's Creed Nexus VR. And this adventure starts in November 2023.

That's right, it's a VR game. For some this will be good news, for others, they might have preferred a more traditional game. However, any excuse to bring back Ezio Auditore who, for such a long time was a fan favourite of the series, is excuse for celebration.

Since we last saw Ezio we've accompanied Connor, Kassandra and Bayek across huge open-world areas, through different countries. Now, he's back, and he's seeing the world in first-person.

According to a video showcasing the game, Nexus VR centres on a Brotherhood plan to seize ancient technology and recruit people into their belief system. An unknown voice summons three assassins from across time and space - because this is still an Assassin's Creed game - to team up and take down this evil.

As the trailer builds, showcasing each assassin, the video ends by showing Ezio leaping from within a haystack. And surely fans went wild.

Assassin's Creed is a massive franchise and it has explored many areas; different time periods, in various countries. There have been small linear mobile adventures, as well as sprawling RPGs that seem neverending. So, the next step is Virtual Reality which makes a great deal of sense, given how Nexus within the game has shown itself.

There's an understandable amount of criticism towards the game given its move to VR, and Meta VR at that. Pinning one of the series' best protagonists to an exclusive Meta VR game is going to upset many. Hopefully many see past the VR as a bad thing and see this as a great experiment in the franchise.

Let's hope that success for this title brings Ezio back in a more traditional sense and expands our favourite anti-hero once again.
