Ezio Auditore is quite easily one of the most beloved characters in gaming. The protagonist of Assassin's Creed II was a lightning bolt of charm after the relatively stoic Altair, and the cheeky chappy helped solidify Assassin's Creed as an all-time great series.

While plenty of Assassins have come and gone in the years since Ezio made his debut, it's fair to say that none have ever really come close to beating him in terms of raw popularity. Maybe Bayek, but even he couldn't quite move Ezio from the white hot centre of our hearts. What a treat then, that Ezio is set to return in a new Assassin's Creed adventure.

Take a look below!

Assassin's Creed Nexus is a stunning-looking new VR adventure that will bring together Kassandra (Assassin's Creed Odyssey), Connor (Assassin's Creed III), and Ezio (all the best ones) for an adventure that spans time.

Ubisoft confirm that Assassin's Creed Nexus sees the nefarious Abstergo working in the modern day to go back into the timelines of the three assassins as they attempt to uncover a valuable artefact.

Players will meet an older Ezio in 15th century Italy, Kassandra in 400 BC Greece, and Connor during the US revolution of the 18th century. While Ezio definitely already has a pretty complete story, and is arguably the only assassin who actually does, I'm super excited to see him again.

Since this is a VR game, it'll be the first Assassin's Creed to take place entirely in first-person. However, this is an Assassin's Creed game at its core, which means "open maps" to explore and plenty of parkour and stealth. Ubisoft says the game's various sandbox levels can be completed in a huge number of ways, so you can combine sneaky tactics and a more up-close approach as and when.

Assassin's Creed Nexus will be launching for the Meta Quest VR headset later on this year.
