Ubisoft confirmed ages ago that remakes of Assassin’s Creed games are on the table, and it’s now seemingly teasing the long-awaited return to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Now the Assassin’s Creed Ezio trilogy is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but it’s hard to argue that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag isn’t one of the best games in the series.
Edward Kenway is a brilliant protagonist, maybe not as charismatic as Ezio but charming all the same, and the mixture of land-based assassin gameplay and naval battles on the open-seas was the perfect blend for an action-adventure game.

It’s been dying for a remake for some time and with Ubisoft reiterating that remakes are on the cards, fans naturally want Black Flag to be one of them.
Judging from some of Ubisoft’s recent social media activity, it seems that’s finally happening as it’s been posting Black Flag content at a really strange time in the studio’s life.
Ubisoft recently made a meme-inspired post on Twitter/X saying, “‘Unfortunately you’ve lost your memory’ UNFORTUNATELY??” with a picture of Black Flag’s title screen attached.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows might have come and gone but you’d expect it to remain the focal point of Ubisoft’s marketing until the next Assassin’s Creed game gets announced, making the attention Black Flag has been getting suspicious at best.

We could just be clutching at straws here but allow us to dream, as a remake of Black Flag for current-gen hardware would be a literal game changer, even if the original release still holds up despite it being an Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game.
It’s probably best to temper your expectations to avoid disappointment but Ubisoft knows damn well we want this remake, meaning it’ll also know to expect backlash if a completely different Assassin’s Creed game gets a remake instead, especially one less deserving.
