ARC Raiders Tackles Out of Bounds Cheaters, But It's Not Gone to Plan

Cheaters never prosper, apparently

The developers of ARC Raiders have been trying to tackle the issue of out-of-bounds players, but the efforts haven't quite gone according to plan, yet.

The premise of ARC Raiders is relatively simple. You enter a map, go on the hunt for precious loot, encounter other online players, and extract from that map with as much loot as possible.

Of course, things are never really that simple in ARC Raiders, because the chances are that you won't encounter a friendly online player. It’s more than likely that they will shoot on sight in an attempt to take all your loot. But that’s where much of the game's fun lies.

Cheaters Are a Never-Ending Problem

What is not fun is pesky online cheaters. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what online shooter you play; it’s more than likely that you’ve encountered your fair share of cheaters over the years, and ARC Raiders is no exception.

Saying that, it’s not like the developers at Embark Studios aren't doing their best to eradicate cheaters in ARC Raiders, because the developers quite clearly are trying to tackle the ongoing issue. Sadly, no matter the efforts, it’s sometimes not quite enough.

As brought to our attention by TechRadar, Embark Studios recently deployed Update 1.12.0, and this update makes four important changes. We spoke about the patch fixing exploits related to duplicating items and ammo, but more importantly, it attempts to tackle glaring cheater tactics.

Here’s How the ARC Raiders Update Is Tackling Cheaters

In the 20 January update, Embark Studios published a full patch note document. Key things were that they fixed some cases where players were able to damage others from behind geometry, and fixed various out-of-bounds map locations on Stella Montis.

In recent weeks, the reports of players going out of bounds, whether it’s an attempt to kill other players or crawl away so that loot can't be taken away, have been increasing.

Unfortunately, cheaters are still finding a way around the recent update.

I suppose the best Embark Studios can do is at least slow down and reduce the number of players encountered in the game. That being said, the developers have promised that further fixes are on the way.

Maybe if a player is caught cheating in ARC Raiders, they could get matchmade with other cheaters, similar to what is done with aggressive ‘shoot-on-sight’ players, or they could do something to hinder their game when paired with honest players. Perhaps replace real ammo with rubber bullets?

Hopefully, things will get better when it comes to tackling cheaters in ARC Raiders, and I have no doubts that the developers will try their best.

ARC Raiders is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
