ARC Raiders Gamers Worried Over Matchmaking Rules, 'How Do Devs Know'

If you play the multiplayer shooter, ARC Raiders, then you will know that other players are not to be trusted, and it’s a fundamental aspect of the popular title.

It’s fair to say that 2025 was a banging year for video games with the likes of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Silent Hill f, Dispatch and Ghost of Yōtei, to name a few, leading the charge.

Out of the list above, perhaps Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the surprise hit of 2025, claiming a bag full of gongs at The Game Awards in December. After that, the RPG developed by Sandfall Interactive, well and truly became mainstream.

The success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been celebrated by the community across the world, perhaps none more so than two of its actors, Ben Starr and Devora Wilde.

Speaking of Devora Wilde, during our interview, the actor revealed that she’d love to see a Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 prequel, starring her character, Clea, and we’d love to see it too.

ARC Raiders Was One of the Most Popular Games of 2025

Another surprise hit of 2025 is the aforementioned multiplayer, extraction shooter ARC Raiders, a favourite game of former WWE Superstar and current AEW star, the inaugural National Champion, Ricochet.

Developed and published by Embark Studios, ARC Raiders is a third-person, PvPvE multiplayer game where robots roam Earth and players (the humans) are in a constant fight for survival.

Players can work together as a team, but if you want to survive with the best loot, you might be encouraged to kill other players and claim their goodies.

For this reason, it’s probably a good idea to play ARC Raiders with a squad of friends, so that you can back each other up.

With that in mind, Redditors were discussing a shared article from TheGamer, which reveals that the developers at Embark Studios know if players kill other players on sight and will then pair them with other aggressive players via its matchmaking system. In particular, players have been discussing how the developers know when a player kills another player on sight in ARC Raiders.

“But are they able to distinguish between you engaging someone or you responding to someone shooting you?” asked LGWalkway.

“I don't think so. Once my friend and I started defending ourselves, every lobby was kill on sight, no comms or emotes. Once we accepted death for a few rounds, we started getting decent lobbies again,” replied BenSolace.

“When we decided to kill on sight, we got only such lobbies. When we decided to loot only (avoiding PvP when possible), we met significantly fewer PvP players,” added Lonigus.

ARC Raiders is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
