Animal Crossings: New Horizons was the number one game that got us through the dark days of the COVID-19 pandemic but despite Nintendo no longer updating the social simulation title, it hasn’t stopped players from returning to it.

Released back in 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the fifth main entry in the much-loved Animal Crossing series and this one saw us boot up our Nintendo Switch and head to an island alongside our favourite villagers.

Check out the trailer for Animal Crossing: New Horizons below!

Allowing us to play with friends, New Horizons released at the perfect time at the start of the pandemic and its subsequent Happy Home Paradise DLC was no exception.

Alongside the DLC, Nintendo also released a 2.0 update in November 2021 which offered players 16 additional villagers, boat tours, 22 new furniture items and more.

However, it also offered another item that one fan has only discovered recently: a golden ladder.

“TIL Golden Ladders exist?” they posted to r/AnimalCrossing. “I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable on ACNH but I had no idea this item existed!

Golden tools, such as the golden shovel, fishing rod, axe, net, slingshot and watering can are more durable than the standard and also offer bonuses when using them. However, not many players had come across a golden ladder as evident by the replies to the Reddit post.

One said, “Never knew this was a thing,” while another comment read, “Woah, I didn’t know that!”

Although this golden ladder doesn’t appear to have any extra bonuses attached, it is apparently still a rare find and begs the question as to what else Animal Crossing: New Horizons has to offer after all these years.

However, one day all the discoveries will indeed be uncovered as Nintendo are no longer updating the 2020 release. At least we can look back at the memories, I guess!
