A Classic PS1 Game Is Finally Getting The Remake It Deserves

Life is full of unexpected comebacks: Mickey Rourke. Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill'. Mullets. And now, a cult 90's PS1 game is returning from the darkness.

As confirmed yesterday during Nintendo's Mini Partner Direct, Namco's 1999 platformer Pac-Man World is being remade for modern platforms, for some reason. People seem happy about it, so who am I to judge?

The new instalment, brilliantly called Pac-Man World Re-Pac (seriously) has been described by Bandai Namco as a “a modernised classic”. It'll be coming to consoles and PC August 26.

Check it out below!

"It's a classic 3D platformer experience for a new generation," reads the trailer's description. "Guide Pac-Man through a world of adventure as he tries to save his family from Ghost Island!"

The overhauled game promises to be “packed with smoother intuitive gameplay, updated visuals and a wider view of the action”. It'll also have an all-new Quest Mode, and offer players the challenge of beating a number of specially designed 3D mazes in Maze Mode. Oh, and players who beat Quest Mode will be able to unlock the original Pac-Man. Of course if you can't be doing with that hassle, you can literally Google Pac-Man and play some version of it in your browser within minutes. This was does sound more fun, though.

For those of you who were too young/not alive at the time, 1999's Pac-Man World takes the character out of his usual void of mazes and ghosts and places him in a bright 3D platformer inspired by the likes of Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie.

While I must confess to having never played the original, this upcoming remake does look like a pretty fun time. I've no doubt I'll be checking it out later this year.
