We’re only a couple of months away from the launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and if you’re after some pirate fun to keep you busy, we’ve got you covered.

What was one of the worst-kept secrets of the video game industry in recent months? Ubisoft finally confirmed that the remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is real, and it’s releasing much sooner than we think.

However, we’ve still got a short while until the launch of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resyned, and if you’re on the prowl for some pirate shenanigans in the meantime, then hopefully, one of our suggested games might tickle your fancy.

That being said, as fun as some of the mentions are below, you can always check out Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. It’s still a great game today, and despite the upcoming launch of the remake, Ubisoft will not be pulling it from sale.

9 Pirate Games to Enjoy if You Love Assassin’s Creed Black Flag

Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered (PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo)

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is considered to be such a beloved game that any other pirate-inspired title in the series was always going to be compared to it, for better or worse. Sure, 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Rogue is inferior to Black Flag, but that’s not to say it's not a blast, because it certainly is. You play as Shay Cormac, a villainous Templar, offering the player a different perspective from playing the good guys at the Brotherhood of Assassins.

It has fun combat, an intriguing story from the perspective of playing a bad guy, and you can sail the seas on your pirate ship until your heart is content. Best of all, Assassin’s Creed Rogue received a remaster in 2018, which improved its visuals and performance. If you never gave this game a chance or if it flew under your radar, I’d recommend checking out Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered ASAP.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game (PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo)

I think it’s pretty much a given that the vast majority of LEGO video games are an absolute blast and fun for all ages, and 2011’s LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game is no exception.

Based on the first four Disney movies, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean lets you experience this movie franchise like never before, as you explore, smash bricks and build bricks, interact with the colourful characters of the franchise, and, of course, it has that signature Traveller’s Tales humour.

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean is still playable today on PC via Steam and on modern Xbox consoles with backwards compatibility. Unless, of course, you have compatible previous-gen PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (PC, PlayStation and Xbox)

When Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii first leaked, I think many of us thought this game must have been a premature April Fool’s. However, when it was officially announced by SEGA and RGG Studio, we soon realised that it was indeed real.

In Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, you play as a former legendary Tojo Clan member, the charismatic Goro Majima. To say that this game is bonkers would be an understatement. Majima has amnesia, so the only logical choice is to become a pirate, right? Sail the seas, upgrade your ship, and search for precious loot the Majima way. We scored Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii an excellent 8/10.

One Piece Odyssey, Bandai Namco

One Piece Odyssey (PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo)

If you love anime and pirates, then there’s a good chance that you love One Piece. There are quite a few video games to choose from in the series, but the most recent of which is One Piece Odyssey, released in 2023.

“But during their voyage, they are caught in a storm and shipwrecked. They find themselves washed up on a lush tropical island surrounded by constantly raging storms,” reads the synopsis of One Piece Odyssey. Vast exploration, fun combat and the quirky humour of the series, this RPG is one fans should not miss.

Risen 2: Dark Waters (PC, PlayStation and Xbox)

Released in 2012, many might consider Risen 2: Dark Waters to be somewhat of a cult classic, and it is probably a game that has been overlooked often, for whatever reason.

Risen 2: Dark Waters has a gritty world to explore, wrapped in an intriguing narrative that will keep you hooked from start to finish. It has challenging gameplay, mythical creatures to slay, a deep levelling up systems and more. Today, Risen 2: Dark Waters is playable on PC via Steam and via Xbox backwards compatibility.

Sea of Thieves (PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox)

When Sea of Thieves was first released in 2018, it received a lot of scrutiny with a severe lack of modes to keep players engaged for the long haul. However, over time, much like No Man’s Sky, Sea of Thieves has improved massively over the years with improved exploration, gameplay, modes, visuals and more.

You might not get the most out of this pirate RPG on your lonesome, but if you can gather a few friends for online play, there’s a lot of fun to be had with Sea of Thieves today. What’s more, Sea of Thieves has crossplay for all platforms, and it's included in Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.

Sid Meier's Pirates (PC)

Many might consider the strategic RPG, that is, Sid Meier's Pirates, to be the best pirate game of all time, and that would be a fair statement. Originally released in 1997, you can pick up a more up-to-date version of the game from 2005 on Steam.

Sid Meier's Pirates has an immersive open-ended sandbox to experience, challenging naval combat, swashbuckling action and tons of replay value. There may be a lot to learn in this game, but Sid Meier's Pirates is surprisingly easy to play. As the old saying goes, “Easy to play, hard to master” (or something like that).

The Curse of Monkey Island, Lucasfilm/Disney

The Curse of Monkey Island (PC)

We could have picked just about any game from this series, but we chose The Curse of Monkey Island, originally released on PC, also in 1997. This game has aged like fine wine. If you love point-and-click adventures, then you can’t go wrong with the timeless gameplay and visuals of The Curse of Monkey Island. To this day, Steam has a user review rating of “Overwhelmingly Positive”, which pretty much tells you all you need to know.

Gorgeous animation, head-scratching puzzles, a gripping story and fantastic humour, there’s a lot to love about The Curse of Monkey Island. So what are you waiting for? Go play it, already!

Windrose (PC)

Simply put, Windrose is the game that Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones wished it could be. Developed by the indie team at Kraken Express, to say that Windrose has been a standout success in 2026 is putting it mildly. Since its launch on Steam on 14 April 2026, according to Steam DB, Windrose has achieved an incredible concurrent player number of 222,134, which again, this is for an indie game that likely had a comparatively small budget to the likes of Skull and Bones.

Windrose has survival and crafting elements that you might find in games such as Valheim and Rust, with added naval combat, rewarding exploration with procedural-generated islands, and no two playthroughs will be the same. At the time of writing, there doesn't appear to be news of a console release, with Windrose being a Steam exclusive. Oh, and it's in early access, might I add.

When is the Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Release Date?

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be released on 9 July 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
