If you’re loving Crimson Desert right now but are also looking for alternatives to play, then you might want to check out some of these other fantasy RPGs.

The year 2026 has already blessed us with so many fantastic video games; it’s already looking like it will be a gruelling task to pick a standout Game of the Year. However, one game that might be at the top of many lists is Crimson Desert from Pearl Abyss.

After being revealed at E3 2019, it’s been a patient wait for Crimson Desert, and while all of its gameplay trailers led us to believe it might be a fun fantasy RPG, I think few could have predicted the success it would become. That being said, if you’ve finished its story or are looking for an alternative distraction, then we have some fantastic suggestions to pique your interest.

Here Are Six Games Like Crimson Desert!

Black Desert Online - PC, PlayStation and Xbox

Perhaps the most obvious choice is the game that came before Crimson Desert, that being Black Desert Online. This is an MMORPG from Pearl Abyss that may be a bit rough around the edges, with it being over 10 years old, but it’s still a solid and immersive RPG that you can sink ungodly hours into. Plus, it will no doubt be an intriguing trip to see what brought Crimson Desert to the dance.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey - PC, PlayStation and Xbox

Travel back in time to ancient Greece, take on the tyranny of the Roman Empire, and battle mythical beasts, as Kassandra or Alexios (Kassandra for the win), in Ubisoft’s epic open-world action RPG, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Many might consider this game to be the best in the series, and to be honest, they could be right. You might also be pleased to know that Odyssey recently benefited from a free new-gen upgrade, giving it a tidy 60 frames-per-second boost on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Dragon's Dogma 2 - PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

The smash-hit sequel to the 2012 RPG from Capcom, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is even bigger, better and visually striking than its predecessor. It has challenging combat, epic enemies of legendary stature, a lush open-world to explore, and more. As good a game as Dragon's Dogma 2 is, when it launched in 2024, it was arguably the best year for video game releases ever, which saw the likes of Astro Bot, Resident Evil 4 remake, and Balatro, to name a few. So, if Dragon’s Dogma 2 flew under your radar, it might be worth giving it a chance today. I doubt you’d regret it.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, Deep Silver

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II - PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S

Developed by Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is a fantasy RPG different to all other entries in this article, in respect that it’s a somewhat grounded offering, with no mythical beasts, but plenty of action, exploration and sarcastic British humour. Set in the 15th century, this game will not hold your hand in any way, and if you’re not careful, it will kick your ass! However, this might just be the most immersive game you’ll play from this list.

Monster Hunter: World - PC, PlayStation and Xbox

When it comes to exploring a big open-world and slaying massive enemies, it doesn't get much better than Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, especially with this 2018 release. Monster Hunter: World features combat that will test your skills, enemies that will require planning and preparation to defeat, in-depth crafting and levelling up mechanics, and thrilling rewards. So, what are you waiting for? Gather a squad and get hunting!

Where Winds Meet - PC, PlayStation 5 and Mobile

Developed by Everstone Studio, Where Winds Meet is an epic action RPG with a massive open-world to play on your lonesome or with friends in PvP/PvE combat and exploration. A diverse combat system, tons of skills to unlock and upgrades to acquire, loads of cosmetics, challenging enemies, and so much more. Oh, and this game is totally free, by the way, with no pay-to-win incentives. Happy days!
