Last year’s Game of the Year winner, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has dropped new, free DLC to celebrate its one-year anniversary.
It doesn’t matter what games you played last year; there was no escaping Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 when it came out.
Being a day-one Xbox Game Pass title certainly helped put it on people’s radars but it was the story, performances and tight turn-based action gameplay that made it an award winner.
It swept the 2025 Game Awards and walked away with even more trophies at this year’s BAFTAs, and now it’s celebrating its initial release one year later.
An update for Expedition 33 was released today and while it brought a few bug fixes and patches, it also brought new content.

To celebrate the anniversary, some new styles have been unlocked for its core cast of characters, all of which are accessible via the in-game Gestral Merchant.
This includes a new hairstyle for Gustave, which can be acquired at the Gestral Merchant near Stone Wave Cliffs, as well as new styles for Verso, Maelle, Lune, Sciel and Monoco. The latter styles can be acquired at the Gestral Merchant near Grosse Tête.
Some images of the new styles were provided in the announcement post and they’re looking suave to say the least.
These are purely cosmetic changes that will have no impact on gameplay. Unfortunately, new costumes weren’t included as part of the surprise release.

While they’re a nice addition to the game we’re sure many will be disappointed that a full-on DLC expansion hasn’t been announced yet.
Developer Sandfall Interactive hasn’t made any mention of a story expansion in the works and the chances of players getting one is pretty low.
When talking about where the series could go from here, Sandfall Interactive has teased a whole anthology of games could be made, so if a new project is in the works, it’s probably a spin-off/sequel.
That said, we can't have expected too much from the game’s first anniversary. The fact the devs gave players something new in the first place is appreciated.
It’s a pretty simple question with a pretty simple answer: Yes. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 really is that good.
The awards it’s won should be proof enough of its quality but for those still on the fence, it’s a must-play if you’re looking for a masterfully made RPG.
Expedition 33’s cast really gives it their all and makes you genuinely care for the characters. While the action-packed combat is pleasant on the eyes, it’s the slower, more emotional moments that made this game a Game of the Year winner.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is still available on Xbox Series X/S as an Xbox Game Pass title, but it’s also available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
