6 Things I Want to See in Resident Evil Requiem DLC's New Story

As much as I love the campaign of Resident Evil Requiem, I felt it could have been a little longer. It took me 13.5 hours to complete on normal difficulty, and that included finding most hidden collectables in the game. From what I’ve heard, those who didn't bother with collectable hunting (I don’t know what difficulty they played) finished the campaign in about eight to nine hours.

According to community chatter, it took players about 10 to 13 hours to finish 2021’s Resident Evil Village on the first run, and about three to four hours for its Shadows of Rose story DLC.

As for 2023’s Resident Evil 4 remake, the campaign took roughly 15 to 17 hours on a first playthrough and five to six hours for its Separate Ways story DLC. In my opinion, I’d love to see the Resident Evil Requiem story DLC have a similar length to Separate Ways, to balance out the somewhat shorter main campaign.

The main campaign in Resident Evil Requiem was split into two styles, with Grace having more horror and Leon having more action. However, I’d like to see Leon in constant danger, with the player feeling he could die at any moment.

As fun as it is kicking zombies in the face, I think for the most part, Leon’s segments lacked a sense of dread, and I know that was by design for the seasoned veteran. But if we could flip it so that Leon’s story DLC is very horror-focused, it’s something I’d love to see.

Without giving too much away, it was made very clear that at least two of the main villains in Resident Evil Requiem are fanatics of Oswell E. Spencer, the co-founder of Umbrella and Albert Wesker, an iconic power-hungry bad guy. I’d like to see more of this in the next game, especially since Zeno has such a striking resemblance to the aforementioned Albert Wesker. Are there more fanatics, and could the former S.T.A.R.S leader still be alive, somehow?

Look, I said in a previous article, I love Leon, and while I have faith that this new story DLC will be fun, he’s had a lot of the spotlight in recent years, and the same can be said for Chris Redfield, who was teased in the ending of Resident Evil Requiem. With that in mind, I think the upcoming DLC could have a great opportunity to set up events for the next game with either Jill Valentine or Claire Redfield. Heck, perhaps both of the charismatic women could co-star in the next game. Capcom, please make it happen!

Don’t get me wrong, Resident Evil Requiem has plenty of unlockable goodies, whether it's new skins, weapons, artwork, character models and so forth. However, if you never purchased the Deluxe Edition, the optional character skins will be in very short supply. I feel RE Requiem could have offered more in this respect. The story DLC will be a perfect opportunity for players to unlock more skins for characters and weapons, as well as some snazzy new filters.

The first iteration of The Mercenaires was in the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 1999. This is essentially a wave-based survival mode that has a time limit. Players would not only score points by killing enemies (which can also extend the time limit), but also be encouraged to chain epic combo kills for a maximum score and rewards to unlock.

In Resident Evil 5, The Mercenaries, when playing co-op, it was such a blast with friends. If The Mercenaries were to return in Resident Evil Requiem via the free update or bundled with the story DLC, I think it would be a popular move. Especially when we consider that Resident Evil Requiem was nearly a co-op game, so that shouldn't be a difficult adaptation for Capcom.
