Tomb Raider: Sacred Artifacts Officially Announced

I'm always down to raid more tombs

It has been seven whole years since we got a brand new Tomb Raider game and, whilst it was undoubtedly a lot of fun to play through the remasters of the originals that released recently, it's still difficult to not feel neglected as a fan of the series.

Fortunately, there are other ways to get our fix in the meantime, and the games have been expanded upon brilliantly in recent times by a bunch of limited series comics that let us know what Lara Croft has been up to in the intervening.

In brilliant news for those who have read them already, that selection is about to get even broader, with a new release confirmed on the official Tomb Raider Twitter/X page.

Published by the brilliant Dark Horse Comics, Tomb Raider: Sacred Artifacts has been produced in conjunction with Crystal Dynamics, and a team that includes Casey Gilly, Antonio Di Caprio and Eren Angiolini.

In an exclusive preview with Freak Sugar, the team shared a little look at what fans can expect, confirming some details around the story, saying, "Adventurer, archaeologist, socialite, survivor, legend. Lara Croft’s life is anything but boring! She’s survived a shipwreck, betrayal, ancient traps, prophecies, and paparazzi."

"When Croft Manor goes up in flames, it forces Lara to take stock of her life and figure out what is important to her. But a confrontation with a mysterious foe who has gotten their hands on a dangerous and familiar artifact launches Lara into a cross-continental journey, doing what she does best: raiding tombs and questing for legendary relics."

There isn't an exact breakdown of what artifact they are talking about, but there have been plenty of potential options in the games over the years that could be making a return here in some form.

In lieu of being able to actually play another Tomb Raider game, these comics have been a bit of a lifesaver, with the previous release, Tomb Raider Underworld, serving as one of the better video game adaptations around.

Lara Croft's history in comic books is actually quite extensive, with the character first appearing in that form of media all the way back in 1997 for Top Cow Productions.

This new series is set to debut on 16 January, 2026 in most specialist stores, but you can use Comic Shop Locator to find your nearest retailer if you're in the UK, Europe or the USA.
