This SteelSeries Headset Adds a Game-Changing PS5 Audio Feature

Easily the most user-friendly headset I've used

Whilst I have an encyclopaedic knowledge of video games, I’m not exactly the most savvy person when it comes to technology. I’m not totally inept, of course, but over the years, I’ve struggled to find a headset that really suits my needs when it comes to multiplayer gaming. That predominantly consists of me loading up Fortnite or Phasmophobia with friends.

It’s not exactly a lack of comfort that I have an issue with; I don’t adore being overwhelmed by settings. My friends can attest to my struggles in this department, kindly labelling me as both “unc” and “chopped”. If I have to sift through endless options on a confusing app in order to balance party chat with that of the game I’m playing, that’s not a headset I’ll be using in the long-term. If this sounds like you, fear not, I have found a solution.

SteelSeries’ Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset (£99.99) has eliminated all of my audio woes, and I’m only frustrated that it didn’t come into my life sooner. While the headset is multi-platform, working across PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, it’s going to be of most use for PlayStation 5 gamers, which is where it’s proved to be a lifesaver for me.

Over 100 PS5 Game Presets Make This My New Go-To Headset

The Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset can be linked to the accompanying free Arctis app where users can access over 100 audio presets all based upon the PlayStation 5’s most popular titles. Those aforementioned favourites of mine, Fortnite and Phasmophobia, are included in the line-up. Elden Ring: Nightreign, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Hogwarts Legacy, ARC Raiders, Astro Bot, Red Dead Redemption 2, Silent Hill f, and The Last of Us Part II are just a few of the other examples with presets ready to go.

That means before loading up a game, all you need to do is simply head into the app, find the game you’re playing and tap that preset to activate it. What you’ll then experience is a perfectly balanced audio experience allowing every game’s soundscape to shine without becoming overpowering. It’s a true revelation; perfect for the less technologically inclined like myself.

Away from its presets, the Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset is extremely comfortable. I particularly like the lightweight elastic that forms a cushion across the top of your head. It adds a feeling of weightlessness which supports long gaming sessions. At only 260g in weight, it’s easy to see that the headset has been made with comfort in mind. I also appreciate the Lavender colour-way I have too. Yes, some of us want our gaming accessories to look pretty.

The headset supports fast charging. In fact, it can generate a whopping nine hours of use after only 15 minutes of fast charging. It’s incredibly handy given how prone I am to not keeping track of my headsets’ battery levels. In total, the Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset can run for up to 40 hours on a full battery. Impressive.

There’s also a handy Bluetooth Quick-Switch functionality which allows you to instantly switch between pairing your headset with both your phone and console. Plus, the Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset is fitted with Neodymium Magnetic Drivers which are custom-designed to produce “crystal clear highs, pinpoint mids, and deep bass”. In other words, there’s not a pitch or note you won’t hear clearly. On that front, I simply attest that I cannot fault the audio at all. It’s of no surprise to me that the headset’s box is covered in accolades, from “best headset for consoles” to “best wireless gaming headset”. It ticks every box.

You Might Not Have Considered Thumb Grips, But You Should

It’s not the only way in which SteelSeries has enhanced my gaming experience. I’ve also had the opportunity to sample the KontrolFreak No-Slip Thumb Grips (£12.99), compatible with PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. I’ll admit, I was skeptical. I’ve never particularly thought of myself as having any slippage problems when it comes to using my DualSense controller. Alas, the pack included lavender, white, black, and blue options, so I put on the lavender grips to match my headset.

Game changing, dear reader. When I'm in the heat of battle, I no longer find myself attempting to reposition my hand. My thumb is well and truly gripped. Perhaps more noticeably though, the grips make gaming more comfortable. In a game like Fortnite, I’m pushing that thumbstick down as often as I can to run to my next destination. I’ve found over the years that doing just that can cause an ache and sensitivity over time. The grips though don’t just promote grip; they add a delicate layer of cushioning making the thumbsticks far more comfortable to control.

And while I was worried that they might lessen the sleekness of my controller at first, the gentle hint of lavender has well and truly grown on me.

All in all, I can safely say that SteelSeries is now most definitely a gaming accessories company that’s firmly on my radar. Gaming is expensive, and purchasing additional accessories can oftentimes feel like an unnecessary luxury. That doesn’t feel like the case with SteelSeries. Both the Arctis Nova 3P Wireless Headset and KontrolFreak No-Slip Thumb Grips have been created as a solution to solve various common problems. With both items offering comfort and ease of use at a respectable price point, they’re an easy recommendation from me.
