Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Collector's Box Review

It’s a nice bust

One of the most highly anticipated remakes in recent years has arrived with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, revitalising a classic for the modern era.

A remake of Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2004, is now better than ever with improved visuals, gameplay and various quality of life enhancements.

In my review, I said: “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a masterpiece reborn. I envy those who are new to this series, who are going to experience this game for the very first time, but for those returning, they will have a long-lost love rekindled.”

So, if, like me, you love everything about the Metal Gear Solid series, what better way to show your love by picking up an awesome collector’s item to proudly display on your shelf or console unit than this stunning bust?

And no, this is not that horrid US-exclusive Collector’s Edition that totally butchered Naked Snake’s face; this particular item is, quite frankly, a work of art.

There was a Collector’s Edition version of this particular item in the UK priced at £299.99, which came with the ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Deluxe Edition’ (which I purchased separately), but as far as I can tell, that’s long sold out.

However, at the time of writing, a UK retailer is selling the ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Collector’s Box’, which comes with the Deluxe Edition items, other than the game and steelbook case, and it’s priced at £214.99. That being said, some retailers may have slight variations of content, so please keep that in mind.

So, what do you get in the ‘Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Collector’s Box’? It includes a well-made metal and enamel keychain that represents the iconic alert icon when enemies in the game see you. A FOX Unit iron-on patch, five snazzy art cards featuring Naked Snake, The Boss, Eva, Ocelot and Volgin.

You also get the original soundtrack on a gorgeous double-sided 12” vinyl with a total of 13 tracks. If you don't have a vinyl player, fear not, because you’ll also get a digital code to download all the tracks, so that you can listen to the incredible voice of Cynthia Harrell until your heart is content.

The artwork on the vinyl cover is an X-ray of a snake, similar to what we see during a cinematic in the game, with camo artwork on the inside. The vinyl itself is a very eye-catching, bright aqua-like green.

Now, let’s get to the star of the show and the reason why you might be considering this Collector’s Box of goodness, the ¼ scale “elite bust” of Naked Snake, which stands at 23cm tall and comes with a certificate of authenticity from its creators, Figurama Collectors.

So many times we’ve been deceived by promotional pictures for a collector’s edition item, only to be let down when it arrives, massively. ‘Dead Space 2: Collector’s Edition’, I’m looking at you!

This incredibly detailed bust of Naked Snake has Zephyranthes candida at its base, the iconic flowers that flood the grass in that epic final encounter in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and in the remake.

It also has a tree branch wrapped around the lower part of the base with a white snake. Fun fact, there are three white snakes unique to the area in which you have the showdown with the final boss. The snakes are named Solid, Solidus and Liquid.

Naked Snake on the bust is dressed in a green khaki outfit equipped with his instantly recognisable eye patch and bandana. It’s hard to put into words just how incredibly detailed and well-made this bust is. I really do mean it when I say it's a work of art. Made from PVC plastic, it’s surprisingly heavy, so I instantly knew it's not made of cheap materials. If you can get your hands on this item, whether it’s the Collector’s Box or the Collector’s Edition, you will not be disappointed.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is out now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
