'Dune' Star Timothee Chalamet Used To Be A Gaming YouTuber

'Dune' Star Timothee Chalamet Used To Be A Gaming YouTuber

He even had a "Controller of the Week" series.

Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul Atreides in the new Dune film from Denis Villenueve, had a YouTube channel where he used to show off his custom Xbox 360 controllers.

"I actually had a YouTube channel people found, it's Youtube.com/moddedcontroller360," said Chalamet in a joint interview with co-star Zendaya on Nate Hill’s YouTube channel. "I used to paint mod controllers... I did three, and I spray painted them. I would open them up and paint them. I would charge people $10." While his custom controller business did not see serious success, this was about the time that he had snagged a role in Law & Order and a number of other short films, so he had options.

He added that ultimately his parents had gotten fed up with the trail of paint he had left in his wake and that’s what caused him to drop the hobby. It’s quite sweet actually — his first custom controller is “Christmas-themed,” and the third video “NEW! Red Tiger Xbox 360 Controller” introduces the (extremely short-lived) “Controller of the Week” series. Well, it’s possible that in another plane of reality, Chalamet became a Xbox-centric content creator rather than an Academy Award nominated actor.

Epic Games has added skins of Paul Atreides and Chani into Fortnite to promote the release of the film, which has been a hit at the box office and the sequel got confirmed only yesterday. "Destined to change the course of the universe, Paul Atreides weaves his own destiny and now, with Chani at his side, their travels take them to the heart of a battle they had not prepared for… a battle on the Fortnite Island," said the studio in the announcement.

Chalamet hadn’t actually seen his likeness in Fortnite before the interview, and so Hill revealed the skins with a flourish. “This is the trippiest thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” joked the actor as Zendaya cheered the character on in a match of the battle royale. “I move so much more gracefully than I do in real life.” So, watch this space for a Dune-themed Fortnite tournament between the entire cast and crew of the new film, populating the map with tens of Timothées.
