Tencent Games has announced Code: To Jin Yong, an upcoming open-world martial arts game set in ancient China - and the gameplay we've seen so far really shows what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of.

Code: To Jin Yong is being developed Lightspeed Studios (PUBG Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile) using the shiny new Unreal Engine. It'll also be the first AAA game from the studio, and is based on the work of celebrated Chinese novelist Jin Yong.

You can check out an explosive two-minute trailer of the game in action below!

Combat looks like it'll combine fast-paced sword combat with a number of spells, with the hero in the trailer appearing to use the power of wind against his enemy.

Tencent wants Code: To Jin Yong to serve as a tribute to the late writer. His works have already inspired a number of film and TV shows over the years, but Code could well be the most ambitious adaptation yet. Certainly, it's the first modern game set in Yong's fictional universe, and the first that looks to be going after an English-speaking audience.

There's no word yet on a release window for Code: To Jin Yong, and the trailer makes it clear that the footage is not representative of final gameplay. Platforms have also yet to be confirmed, but I'd be surprised if this was anything other than exclusive to new-gen consoles and PC. Watch this space.
