It isn’t uncommon for upcoming gaming titles to get cancelled before they are even fully released. With the time between announcement and release varying in length, it can be a rocky journey but one developer has seemingly skipped the middle stage by announcing and cancelling a game in the same cryptic tweet.

Developers Bushiroad International took to Twitter earlier this week to announce the global release date for its anime-themed action-adventure game, Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live. The sequel to Love Live! School Idol Festival, which was shut down in March 2023, will see players take part in a series of rhythm games as well as experience a story about a group of pop idols.

Warhaven is another game that's announced its upcoming closure in recent days.

After the prequel was shut down, players were given the opportunity to transfer their songs and cards to a Japanese version of Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 Miracle Live but the international version was unfortunately delayed. That is until now!

The cryptic tweet finally announced the upcoming release date of Love Live! School Idol Festival 2 which will see the game arrive on Android and iOS. This is where it gets confusing. The developers announce the game will release in February 2024 but will then shut down at the end of May. Yes, I am also baffled.

“We are excited to break the news to you that the global version of Love Live! School Idol festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE! is launching soon in February 2024”, the tweet reads. “However, we also want to inform you that the Global Version will close its doors on May 31, 2024, and cease in-app purchases accordingly. We appreciate the love and support you've shown, and we're committed to making these last few months an unforgettable moment.”

As you can imagine, the bizarre announcement has been met with confusion with players unable to understand why the game would be shutting down so soon after release as well as expect users to partake in microtransactions just to lose any progress.

If you are interested in Love Live! School Idol festival 2 MIRACLE LIVE!, make sure to get ready to play this February because you won’t have long.
