This Unreal Engine 5 MMO Looks Absolutely Incredible

The tech demo video has given us our first look at the game, which is going to be set in a Northern European fantasy world.

Look, Unreal Engine 5 can produce some positively stunning looking games, this we know. You need only glance at some of the incredible fan-made Skyrim remasters to prove that (some of those honestly have the potential to look better than The Elder Scrolls VI, and I’m not even joking).

With that in mind, it’s no wonder that this upcoming MMORPG, Legend of YMIR, looks breathtaking. It’s being developed by WEMADE, the South Korean game dev team who also made the MMORPG series, The Legend of MIR. In this tech demo released by the team, we’ve got our first look at what we can expect from the game.

Legend of YMIR is set to take the worldview of The Legend of MIR series and put a Northern European twist on it, as well as recreate MIR’s story in a fantasy setting. Its gameplay will be similar to that of the MIR series, focusing on PVP siege battles, although we’ve not actually seen any of that in action yet.

If MMOs are your thing, check out the trailer for New World - out now on PC.

We obviously don’t know a huge amount about the story yet either, but we know it features Brynhildr - a gentle but strong woman, who’s also heir to the king. She apparently has a sad backstory, but there’s been no details on that as of yet.

Perhaps her sad backstory will be that she comes from a game which also supports NFTs, which will inevitably be either a huge win or a massive dealbreaker to players depending on their personal stance on it (it’s difficult to find anyone completely indifferent about them, let’s face it). This support shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as The Legend of MIR 4 also supports them, allowing players to tokenise their characters and then sell and trade them as NFTs. I’m very confused, but I’m sure that probably means something to someone. If you’ll excuse me, though, I’m going to stop thinking about expensive JPEGs now, before my brain overheats.
