Ubisoft is finally developing The Crew 3, says insider

Ubisoft's “yet-to-be-announced major IP” for this year is in fact the third entry in the series.

Development on The Crew 3 is said to be fully in motion, according to an industry insider, with corroboration on its potential setting and the aims that the game has for its racing experience.

The Crew 2 missed the mark in a number of ways when it launched in 2018, scuppering the momentum that the original game had secured from racing fans. WIth a persistent open world recreation of the entirety of the United States, you had to applaud Ubisoft Ivory Tower for their ambition. Unfortunately, criticism came for its scope that led to a lot of aspects not being polished enough, leaving not a bad taste in players' mouths, but more of a bland one.

But, datamined screenshots from The Crew 2's US Speed Tour East DLC showed off something titled Project Orlando. Said to be the seeds of a promising DLC exceeding expectations, industry insider Tom Henderson leaked that Project Orlando was a "completely new game with a new driving engine" in The Crew series set in Hawai'i. Then, Henderson changed course to say that Project Orlando is The Crew: Motorfest as per the titles slapped all over these screenshots.

In 2023, we've finally gotten a further update to these crumbs. "Not yet officially announced, Project Orlando started as The Crew 2 DLC, but quickly turned into a standalone title. Taking place on an [Hawai'ian] island, Project Orlando could be named 'Motorfest' and is aimed to compete (or fill the gap) with Forza Horizon," read Insider Gaming's report. "Sources tell Insider Gaming that the announcement of Project Orlando is expected in the coming months and is the 'yet-to-be-announced major IP' to release in FY24."

Fingers crossed for fans who have been missing the series for some time now, and here's hoping that the developer learned from the missteps of the second game to deliver a tightly focused Project The Crew 3: Motorfest.
