The first trailer has arrived for the upcoming Twisted Metal TV series, and the word zany comes to mind.

We’ve been spoiled lately when it comes to video game adaptations. HBO’s The Last of Us was said to be the ‘greatest video game adaptation of all-time’ and in recent weeks, The Super Mario Bros. Movie had the biggest opening ever for an animated film. I’m not exactly sure that Twisted Metal will see that same level of success but hey, it does look fun. You can make your own mind up. Set to air on Peacock, the first trailer has now been released.

Take a look at the trailer for Twisted Metal below.

The ten-episode series will debut on Peacock on 27 July and is described as a ‘high-octane action comedy’. It goes without saying that Twisted Metal is quite obviously an adaptation of the vehicular combat video game series of the same name. The TV series will star Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz, so it definitely has a promising cast.

Although it is loosely based on the PlayStation IP, showrunners Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, Zombieland) have come up with their own story with the help of writer Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai). Both Reese and Wernick have previously expressed what huge fans they are of the franchise, so you should expect to see easter eggs and familiar sights snuck into the show.

The official synopsis reveals that “a motor-mouthed outsider is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland.” The cast also includes Joe Seanoa, Will Arnett, and Thomas Haden Church. The series actually wrapped filming back in August 2022. We were promised “balls-out fun and craziness” and I think the trailer certainly proves that that is indeed in store.
