The Last of Us Part 3 is God knows where but The Last of Us Season 3 is in arm’s reach. Abby’s arms specifically.
The third season of the HBO series will be all about Abby’s side of the story and if you need a refresher, The Last of Us Part II Remastered added a chronological mode that makes Ellie and Abby’s days in Seattle slightly more coherent.
It was interesting to separate both of their stories into different seasons and I think they might have shot themselves in the foot by not filming them back-to-back, but it has allowed for a more fleshed-out storyline that expands the original story.
Onto the latest casting update though. A call has gone out for some new faces to join Season 3 and it pretty much confirms that Yara and Lev will star alongside Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby.

Found through the Betty Mae Casting agency, The Last of Us fans quickly deduced which characters the call was talking about through the description for each one.

One series regular is looking for a mixed ethnicity female performer around 16 years old, and the character is described as having combat experience and a deep connection to faith.
The other asks for an actor from 12 to 15 years old who was assigned female at birth and is willing to shave their head.

Obviously this is about Yara and Lev respectively but if you needed convincing further the roles are being cast for a project filming in March 2026, which is when filming for Season 3 begins.
While there was never really any doubt that these characters wouldn’t be part of the story it’s nice to hear that their portrayal will be accurate to the games.
Yara and Lev were not only an important part of Abby’s story but also one of the best, and if handled well I’m sure viewers will cherish them just as much as gamers did when they first played The Last of Us Part II.
Addressing That Cliffhanger
Season 2 of The Last of Us has the exact same ending as Ellie’s chapter in The Last of Us Part II. It’s literally beat-for-beat.

While this wasn’t a surprise to those who played the game the fact that it was used as a series cliffhanger rubbed some viewers the wrong way.
There’s nothing wrong with a cliffhanger when it’s done in the right way but I think it would have gone down better if we didn’t have to wait so long for Season 3.
Filming begins early next year with the next season’s release date being sometime in 2027, a whole two years after the second season.
