Stranger Things star has seemingly dropped a season five spoiler regarding one of its main villains, Vecna.
Released on Netflix on 15 July 2016, I always remember the social media buzz surrounding its new series, Stranger Things. A supernatural horror program set in the 1980s, which gives major vibes of The Goonies. Fun fact: one of the stars of The Goonies is also in Stranger Things, namely, Sean Astin as Bob.
Stranger Things was a hit from the get-go with a group of kids, Will, Mike, Lucas and Dustin, bonded by Dungeons & Dragons, living a peaceful life in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana.
That was until their world is turned upside down when Will is taken by a demon-like entity dubbed the “Demogorgon”, and a girl named Eleven comes into their lives with supernatural abilities and could be the key to saving Will, and perhaps even the world.
Advert
While there have been hints of the character since the first season, Vecna was revealed in ‘Chapter One’ of season four. However, before Vecna made his full appearance, we were introduced to the Mind Flayer in season two. Yet, we’ve not seen the Mind Flayer since season three after it was defeated by our young band of heroes, or so we thought.

Major Stranger Things Season 5 Spoilers Ahead
I am about to venture into major spoilers regarding Vecna and the Mind Flayer for Stranger Things season five.
That being said, if you’ve been watching the series since the start, there’s a good chance that you already knew of this theory or at least strongly suspected it.
As picked up by IGN, when appearing on the YouTube show Hot Ones, where celebs chat and eat spicy chicken wings, Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, revealed a potential major spoiler for season five.
In a nutshell, Noah says that Will built the tunnels under Hawkins (a route which the Demogorgon’s uses to travel to and from the Upside Down) and that Vecna is controlled by the Mind Flayer, and was given his powers by the giant creature.
Will, being the potential creator of the tunnels, might explain why he was able to scribble down such a detailed map in season one.
Noah Schnapp said that the tunnels were built by Will after being kidnapped by Vecna in season one, which, at the time of writing, hasn't been officially confirmed in the show just yet.
What’s more, the theory that Vecna is controlled by the Mind Flayer was also a subject in the Broadway show, Stranger Things: The First Shadow.
Interestingly, to add some sort of confirmation to what may have been spoiled by Noah Schnapp, is that his potential spoiler slip has since been edited out of the Hot Ones episode. Make of that what you Will (not sorry).
Volume Three of Stranger Things season five will be released on 25/26 December and 31 December 2025/1 January 2026 (depending on your timezone). So, I guess all Will (again, not sorry) be revealed in the coming weeks.
