A major character death has been confirmed ahead of Stranger Things season five.
When Stranger Things first premiered on Netflix in 2016, I very much doubt any of us could have predicted the huge success that it would become today.
“When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl,” reads the deliberately vague synopsis of season one.
Now, nearly ten years have passed as we draw near to its fifth and final season, arriving late this year. We’ve certainly been through a lot with its cast of characters, namely Eleven, Will, Lucas, Mike and Dustin, to name a few.

However, there was one character in particular that made his debut in season four, who had taken the internet by storm with his charismatic charm, namely Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn (The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Gladiator II).
Now, before I proceed, I am about to venture into major spoiler territory, so consider this to be your final spoiler warning.
During the finale of season four, following a showdown with a swarm of Vector’s demobats alongside Dustin, in an epic but emotional scene, Eddie sacrificed his life for the greater good.
Don’t get me wrong, it was pretty conclusive that Eddie died during this battle, but many of us (including me), hoped that somehow, he survived by being chomped on like a Freddo bar by the demobats. Sadly, he did not.

As reported by GamesRadar, during an interview with Empire, one of the show’s producers, Matt Duffer, has reconfirmed that Eddie Munson is, in fact, as dead as a dodo.
“I love that Joe Quinn is toying with people! But no, he's dead,” Matt Duffer said. “Joe is so busy, anyway, that everyone should know he's not coming back. He's shot like five movies since! When the hell has he got time to come and shoot Stranger Things? No, sadly, RIP. He's fully under that ground.”
A part of me still hopes that Eddie Munson is alive, after all, we’ve all seen plenty of characters return who have faced death in movies and TV. I want to say “never say never,” but it might be best for us all to assume the worst.
Season five will consist of eight (longer) episodes to be released in three parts. Part one will be released on 26 November. Part two on 25 December, and finally, part three on 31 December 2025.
