Star Wars finally releases official sequel to Return Of The Jedi

The Empire wasn't totally wiped out ...

A sequel to Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi has finally landed, 40 years after the film’s original release.

And no, I’m not talking about The Force Awakens, although that too is a sequel.

This one is set in the more immediate aftermath of that 1983 film.

You’ll have to venture over to the comic book world though to find out what happened next.

Marvel Comics has announced that it’ll release The Battle of Jakku Trilogy, bridging the gap between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, during which peace is threatened by the rise of The First Order.

The trilogy is to be told across three limited series - Insurgency Rising, Republic Under Siege, and Last Stand - and 12 issues in total.

Star Wars The Battle of Jakku – Insurgency Rising #1 will kick things off this week.

The issue comes from writer Alex Segura and artist Leonard Kirk, and is set shortly after the end of the Battle of Endor.

ICYMI: We sat down with the cast of The Acolyte earlier this year.

In the issue, Leia visits Anakin’s funeral pyre ahead of departing Endor, taking a quiet moment to hold Darth Vader’s helmet.

As reported by Comic Book, she opens up about the anger that she feels: "All I feel is anger - over all the things you did. The people you hurt. The people you left behind. But I'm going to set that aside for now."

Eventually, Leia returns to the rest of the gang where Luke warns Leia against leaning into her darkness.

Elsewhere in the galaxy, in the Anoat Sector, an Imperial Star Destroyer opens fire on a fleet of Rebel Ships.

The attack is led by Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, a character who previously appeared in the game Star Wars: Uprising.

Back on Endor, Luke offers to train Leia in the ways of the force but they’re interrupted by news that just one pilot survived the assault in the Anoat Sector.

That pilot is Rynn Zenat who warns them of Grand Moff Adelhard’s continued fight on behalf of the fallen Empire.

The issue is on sale now, with Insurgency Rising set to be told across four issues.

That run will conclude on 6 November, with the first issue in Republic Under Siege landing on 20 November.

That too will run for four issues, before Last Stand #1 drops on 25 December, with The Battle of Jakku Trilogy’s final four issues.
