Star Wars Episodes 10-12 happening as new trilogy confirmed

The Skywalker Saga is reportedly set to continue

Five years after The Rise of Skywalker debuted in cinemas, a brand new Star Wars trilogy has been confirmed to be in the works.

What’s perhaps unclear is the exact nature of the project.

You see, in an exclusive report by Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr, the journalist confirms that he’s “heard this will comprise Episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga that began with George Lucas’s 1977 first film”.

The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit, though, has challenged that claim, taking to Twitter to say, “Sources tell me it’s NOT a continuation of The Skywalker Saga, but a new story focused on new characters … a new path forward.”

Naturally, Disney is yet to comment on the matter given that these plans have come to light earlier than intended.

I’m more inclined to go with the fact that this is a new trilogy, simply because this project is believed to be separate from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey film, even if that is on hold.

It would make no sense for a potential Episode 10 to bring in all new characters, while Rey is off continuing The Skywalker Saga outside of, well, The Skywalker Saga.

Did you try out Star Wars Outlaws?

One thing that various reports have confirmed is that Simon Kinberg is attached to develop the trilogy, whatever it may be.

I wish I could say that this bodes well, but I’m not so sure.

Kinberg has some incredible producing credits to his name, including The Martian, Logan, Cinderella, Deadpool 2, and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Kinberg also, however, produced X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix alongside Fantastic Four.

While those aforementioned films aren’t terrible, they aren’t exactly all great either - with Jean Grey easily being one of the most fumbled characters.

As such, many are concerned over what this means for Star Wars’ future.

“This guy has a track record of movie disasters,” wrote Twitter's matthewcondello.

“He wrote three of the usually agreed-upon worst superhero movies ever,” added lando_sø4.

On the flip-side, Kinberg did work as a consultant on The Force Awakens, and helped co-create Rebels alongside Dave Filoni, so clearly he’s demonstrated to have a solid understanding of what Star Wars fans want.

Hopefully, it’s that experience that’ll come through. We just don’t want a repeat of Fantastic Four.
