Star Wars has officially cast a brand-new actor to play Luke Skywalker.

For years, the beloved Jedi has been played by the inimitable Mark Hamill.

Hamill, of course, reprised his role for the divisive sequel trilogy, and then returned - with a little CGI magic - in The Mandalorian.

However, amid growing talk from fans that recasting the role might be the better move if Disney plans to tell new stories with Luke Skywalker, a new actor has officially been confirmed for the role.

Announced over on Twitter, Star Wars has officially recast Luke Skywalker after all this time. The only real catch? It's for The Galaxy's Edge attraction at Disneyland.

"A Jedi like his father before him," reads the post. "Luke Skywalker has arrived in Batuu. See the Jedi Knight's debut for Season of the Force at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park."

The Star Wars Twitter account and attendant press release seems not have bothered letting us know the name of the actor playing Luke here, but the fella in the video really does look the part.

Certainly, fans are excited to see young Skywalker back in action.

"Seeing this makes me think we really need a recasting of the core Star Wars characters to younger actors that aren’t well known yet for a next generation baton pass," writes one fan.

Here's hoping that this finally opens the door for Star Wars to revisit classic characters with new actors again. Not that we don't adore Mark Hamill, mind you, it's just that it might be nice to pass the lightsaber after all these years.
