Star Wars brings back Luke Skywalker for new sequel to OG Trilogy

Welcome back, young Skywalker

Luke Skywalker is making a triumphant return in a new Star Wars release inspired by the original trilogy.

When it comes to iconic heroes of the cinematic world, it doesn't get much bigger than Luke Skywalker of Star Wars, and the role he played in helping to bring down the Galactic Empire in the galaxy, far, far away.

Check out the Star Wars: A New Hope trailer below!

We’ve not seen much of Luke Skywalker, at least the live-action version played by Mark Hamill in the Star Wars universe, since his awesome de-aged cameo in the final episode of The Mandalorian (The Book of Boba Fett doesn't count, as it wasn't technically him).

It’s unlikely that Mark Hamill will return in a live-action capacity in Star Wars anytime soon, but that doesn't mean that we’ve seen the last of Luke Skywalker, especially if you’re a fan of the comic book adaptations.

Luke Skywalker is officially back in the new comic book series, Star Wars (2025), and the first issue is out now.

“An epic new adventure begins for Luke, Leia, and Han in the wake of Return of the Jedi,” reads the synopsis of Star Wars (2025) #1. The comic in question is written by Alex Segura with artwork from Phil Noto.

“Luke Skywalker must defend the New Republic from a bloodthirsty gang of mercenaries! Hano Solo investigates a deadly underworld mystery - and saves a surprising ally. Leia Organa must grapple with a new alliance opposed to the goals of the New Republic.”

Star Wars (2025) #1 was released on 7 May 2025 and is available wherever you buy your comics physically or in digital form. The second issue of the ongoing series will arrive on 11 June and the third issue on 16 July.

You can also watch the entire Star Wars saga right now on Disney Plus.
