Star Wars' Mark Hamill backs his Luke Skywalker replacement

He'll have some big shoes to fill

Recasting such an iconic character, and subsequently their actor, will always be a touchy subject but surely getting support from the icon themselves is good enough, right?

That is definitely the case for actor Sebastian Stan who reveals that he has received support from none other than Mark Hamill himself when it comes to potentially taking over the role of a young Luke Skywalker in future Star Wars projects.

In the meantime, check out Stan in action in Thunderbolts* below!

Stan, who has most recently reprised his role as Bucky Barnes in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*, has been no stranger to comparisons to a young Luke Skywalker when it comes to his appearance.

However, a recent interview with Stan’s stunt double, John Nania on Cantina Talk (courtesy of Screen Rant), reveals that the potential for Stan taking over the role exceeds just looking the part.

Nania revealed that Stan has often spoken about the idea of playing a younger Luke in future Star Wars movies, but feels as though Hamill still has a lot to give to the role.

"Do you know how many conversations he and I have had about this?" Nania revealed.

"Literally there was a moment that I'm, like, I'm sure you've seen the picture of you as Luke Skywalker. He then told me... 'Mark and I have actually talked about this.' Not anything official on Disney's level of Star Wars, but I guess Mark Hamill's been, like, 'He's a fantastic actor, let him do it.'

But then Sebastian, being as awesome as he is, he's like, 'Mark is still doing the job. I don't wanna take the job from him, and he's still working, you're not gonna beat the original.'"

However, Stan was also quick to say that he “would love to do it”.

Hamill has reprised his role as Luke Skywalker a handful of times since starring in the original Star Wars trilogy.

He returned in the sequel trilogy, as well as appearing as a younger version of himself in The Mandalorian thanks to de-aging technology.

As a result, it would not be too far-fetched to see him return once again in the future.

However, it is reassuring to see that he supports Stan if the mantle should be passed on and I for one would support this iconic recasting.
