Star Wars fans torn over true cause of Darth Plagueis' death

In the dead of night

We were robbed of Darth Plagueis on Disney+ after The Acolyte was cancelled after just one season, but there is still a wealth of information about the Sith lord out there.

If you weren’t aware, Plagueis was Palpatine’s master, and guided the emperor into his power, creating the most nefarious force in the Star Wars galaxy.

As one of the most powerful Sith to ever exist, it shocks fans that Plagueis was killed in his sleep by a younger Palpatine, known also as Darth Sidious.

It was always destined that the master would fall to the apprentice due to the balance of The Force and the power of two, but many are shocked that Plagueis was killed so easily.

Over on Reddit, the lore is debated between members, with some feeling like something more epic should have occurred.

The killing is explained simply by Savoir_faire81 who said, “As far as killing him in his sleep, anyone can be taken by surprise. Look at the death of Palpatine himself. He obviously didn't know that Vader was going to attack him from behind and toss him down that shaft.”

Some wish we’d seen more of Plagueis, however, it’s always destined that an apprentice kills their master, as a rule created by Darth Bane.

“Yeah, literally the end goal of a Sith apprentice is to rise up and kill their master. That's how you become a Sith master,” explains Taymerica.

Going further, Savoire_faire81 delves into the lore, explaining, “A master chooses an apprentice and once the apprentice becomes more powerful or more cunning than their master they kill them. This is supposed to make certain that the most powerful Sith rules. This is part of the Rule of two.”

Sure, it wasn’t some epic battle, but surely being devious and killing him in his sleep is a dirty trick typical of evil?
