Star Wars fans slam cancelled trilogy as 'misleading'

Never happening in a galaxy far, far away

Recent information has come to the surface surrounding Rian Johnson’s proposed Star Wars trilogy, causing fans to believe the original announcement by Disney was misleading.

Way back when Star Wars was trying to live out a renaissance after the Disney buyout, the House of Mouse announced that Rian Johnson would be making a new trilogy within the franchise.

This was met with mixed reactions after his directorial decisions on Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, but fans were still eager for a fresh new story.

However, Johnson has recently made comments, in an interview with Variety, noting that his idea was very “conceptual” and never had an “outline or treatment or anything.”

In fact, he says that “nothing really happened with it.”

This quote made its way to Reddit, as things do, and fans are far from happy.

“So it was announced before there was even an outline, let alone a treatment??? That's wild and seriously misleading to investors,” comments BOBULANCE.

In reply, another Redditor says, “That's how every corporate works right now… Have some big announcement, stocks rise and shareholders are happy.”

This is a failing from Disney that has happened several times, not just within the Star Wars franchise, but also Marvel.

There’s a desperation to please shareholders, but also keep the audience engaged, even if those projects are vague.

“It’s incredible how many projects are green lit with nothing to show for it,” said HopperPI, who continues, “Make it make sense.”

“Yea, how is this not fraud?” comments another user.

It does seem that Disney has learned its lesson in recent years, however, setting up massive projects in front of everyone can only lead to disaster.

Rarely does this work, and it does feel like audiences are being constantly edged without that gasping finish to satisfy both parties.
