A first-look at the third Sonic The Hedgehog film recently debuted during 2024’s CinemaCon, confirming Jim Carrey’s return as Dr Robotnik AKA Dr Eggman.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 is on track to be one of the biggest films of the year, marking the return of the beloved blue blur’s big-screen interpretation, alongside some of his closest friends and oldest enemies.

As fans gathered for a sneak-peak at the upcoming film details emerged online about what was shown, and boy oh boy will die-hard Sonic fans be happy.

After speculation if Jim Carrey will actually be returning to play Dr Robotnik following the actor’s talks of retirement, it’s confirmed he will return to the role for presumably one last time.

It’s said the trailer showed a Dr Robotnik who’s really let himself go after his last defeat, which means we’re finally going to the rotund Dr Eggman we all know and love from the video games.

Alongside this, Shadow The Hedgehog fans like myself were told the character could be seen battling Sonic and his friends whilst riding a motorcycle, obviously a reference to his spin-off game for the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube and original Xbox.

There’s still no word on who’ll be voicing the edgy anti-hero, though fans have actors such as Keanu Reeves, Hayden Christensen and even one of the original game voice actors, Jason Griffith, in mind for the role.

Unfortunately there was also no word on when a full trailer will be released to the public, though it’s speculated one could drop sometime later this month to tie-in with the Knuckles TV show premiere.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 will race into cinemas on 20 December later this year, a wonderful Christmas present for fans who’ve been dying to see more of the world’s fastest hedehog’s live-action adventures.
