Rebel Moon: Zack Snyder is already planning a "six hour" director's cut experience

A six-hour cut of Rebel Moon, really?

If there’s one thing we know about Zack Snyder, it’s that he loves a director’s cut and his new movie is no exception.

Rebel Moon is an upcoming two-part movie series directed by Zack Snyder, who is also lending a hand as producer and screenplay writer. During Gamescom's Opening Night Live, we were treated to the first trailer for Part One - A Child of Fire and it wowed those in attendance as well as those at home.

Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire has also garnered a great response on the official Netflix YouTube channel with over 65K likes and 4K dislikes from over eight million views. So it’s fair to say that despite not being released yet, the film has thus far been well-received.

Other than those from inside the Snyder realm, we currently do not know the runtime of Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire, yet Snyder is already planning a “six-hour” director’s cut. Yikes! As reported by ComicBook, “I can’t help myself," said Snyder jokingly. “The hope is for it to come out down the road,” he added. Snyder went on to reference his previous director cuts including the likes of Justice League, Watchman and Dawn of the Dead.

“There's a great history of director's cuts that are just cool. When I was in film school, I just always thought that it was cool that there was this other movie that you could discover. And so, for me, there's a lot of... When you make a movie, you have a lot of voices in your own creative mind telling you what would be narratively just the strongest solution. And then, you have this other tug on you,” he continued.

“I do anyway, that is like, 'Well, what if there're rabbit holes that are really amazing to go down and just kind of learn about different aspects of the characters?' For me, those have always been a thing that in the drawing when I draw the scenes or when I am writing the script, I always end up with a lot of that stuff that I feel like really tells the sort of deeper dive story.”

In related news, not content with a two-part movie series, Zack Snyder has also announced that a AAA Rebel Moon RPG game is in the works.

Thankfully you may be pleased to know that Zack Snyder does not plan for each of the Rebel Moon movies to be six hours, the director’s cut will be a combination of both parts. Rebel Moon: Part One - A Child of Fire will launch on Netflix on 22 December 2022 with Part Two arriving in 2024.
