Netflix subscribers slam Squid Game creator for ending tease: 'thanks for the spoiler'

I'm more surprised to learn that this comes out tomorrow, honestly

The man behind Netflix’s hit show Squid Game has revealed a pretty big spoiler about the show’s upcoming ending, and fans aren’t particularly pleased.

Surprise! Season three of Squid Game is out tomorrow!

Also surprise! The series creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, basically just gave away how the whole thing is going to end.

Obviously, this article is going to contain spoilers, although I will tell you in advance that they’re not ultra specific in nature. They’re more like… vibes-based. Hard to explain until I actually tell you, but here goes.

In a recent interview with The Guardian’s Shaad D'Souza, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed how things are gonna round off at the end of the story– and it sounds bleak.

“People like a happy ending… I’m like that too. But some stories, by nature, can’t have one. If you try to force one, the essence is compromised. If a story is holding up a mirror to something, then it’s not always a happy ending. Squid Game is no exception,” Hwang revealed.

“The finale was something even I didn’t expect, so I’m sure a lot of fans will not see it coming. I think a lot of people will have different reactions. It’s definitely going to spur a lot of conversation. I’m looking forward to listening.”

Well, personally, I kind of figured we wouldn’t get an ending with sunshine and rainbows, but what do the fans think about this?

Uh, based on the comments on Discussing Film’s Twitter post featuring the news, they’re… not happy (because they consider it a pretty big spoiler).

“But why did they have to say that a few days before they release the final season,” commented user @ShiinaBR.

“So they just spoil it? Okay lol,” replied user @ChanFromMinny.

"Thanks for the spoiler," added @blank_videos_.

I guess, technically, this is a spoiler, even if it’s not actually outlining what happens.

It’s a spoiler in the same sense that saying a story has “a twist ending” is a spoiler, because now we’ll be expecting the downer ending the whole time.

Or, who knows? Maybe this is some kind of huge misdirect. I guess we’ll know for sure in a matter of hours.
