Ever since his comic debut in 1974, during an Incredible Hulk storyline, he’s been a fan-favourite character, with many loving his matter-of-fact personality and brutal tactics. He’s a core part of the X-Men and has had several big screen appearances being played by Hugh Jackman, who’ll be pulling out the claws once again in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool 3.

In the world of comics though, Marvel plans to celebrate the character the only way they can, placing him in another life-or-death encounter with his old rival Sabretooth.

The pair are like ice and fire, they don’t mix at all and have repeatedly ripped each other to shreds every time they cross paths. They share similar abilities, mainly a powerful healing factor that prevents them both from succumbing to life-threatening injuries, superhuman strength and speed, as well as razor-sharp claws that can cut through most materials, mainly each other.

Now the two will clash once again, in a new storyline titled “Sabretooth War”. The story will run for nine issues, with the last syncing perfectly with Wolverine’s initial appearance in the Incredible Hulk comics 50 years ago.

Writer Benjamin Percy spoke about the upcoming battle, saying: “Sabretooth is the definition of big bad—one of the nastiest, cruellest, scariest villains … and Wolverine’s greatest nemesis.

“The tension has built up painfully, and now these two savage titans are going to claw and slash their way into each other’s lives again in what will be the most violent Wolverine story in Marvel history.”

It’s a big year for Wolverine fans, the unstoppable hero will also be facing off against the Ghost Rider, and even The Predator in other comic crossovers.

The first issue of the “Sabretooth War” storyline will release on the 10th of January 2024.
