Disney just announced that there’s a brand new, untitled Marvel Cinematic Universe film landing at the end of 2028… and nobody has any kind of clue as to what it will end up being.

As reported by Variety’s Adam B. Vary, Marvel Studios have just scheduled another Phase Six film to drop on December 15, 2028. That would mark their fourth MCU film in 2028, which has immediately set alarm bells ringing for the fanbase.

Disney have outwardly stated in the last couple of years that they’re reeling in their oversaturated MCU properties, following a few commercial (and critical) failures for the franchise over the past decade.

So, if they’re now committing to releasing a fourth movie in one year, that must mean it’s something extremely important, right? So what could this mystery, untitled project be?

Could it be the next X-Men movie? Or does Blade finally have a tentative release date? Oh, or is it just something like Shang-Chi 2 or Black Panther 3?

Well, the folks over on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers have a theory of their own; a third Phase Six Avengers film.

“Perhaps Secret Wars is getting split into two?” commented user nicolasb51942003.

“Disney usually takes December for their biggest blockbusters (Avatar, Star Wars, Avengers) and 2028 is the 20th anniversary of the MCU’s launch.”

“Might be a stretch, but my guess is that it’s going to be a third (or seventh overall) Avengers movie that’s secretly being developed as a sequel to Secret Wars”, replied user YTDanTheMan137.

“2028 will also be the 20th anniversary of the MCU, which started with the first Iron Man film back in 2008. To me, it just makes sense that they would cap this era of the MCU with an Avengers film if it’s set on this new date.”

Y’know what? I think that makes way more sense.

Honestly the part that’s swaying me is the fact that it’s the 20th anniversary of the MCU. I 100% seeing them do something to celebrate that, alongside including it in all of the marketing.

Oh god, wait, does anyone else suddenly feel really, really old? There are people that weren’t born when the first Iron Man film came out that will legally be allowed to drink and vote next year. Ew. Gross. I need to lie down.
