MCU fans torn over impending reboot: ‘I’m not ready’

Will the MCU reboot?

Marvel fans are torn over the prospect of the MCU rebooting after the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, but would it be a good or bad thing?

Whether it's TV and film, video games or comic books, fans of each form of media are no stranger to popular franchises getting at least one reboot for better or worse.

We might be a couple of years away from the MCU’s Avengers: Secret Wars, but fans are already fearing a reboot from Marvel and Disney.

Thunderbolts* is the current major MCU release.

“The MCU shouldn't reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars,” declared Reddit user marvelcomics22.

“They are damned if they do, damned if they don't,” replied Dino_Spaceman. “If they reboot, executives will be far too tempted to try to recreate the first decade of stories that worked and just do the same thing, but with a new cast. If they don't, they are weighed down by two decades of storylines.”

“One thing I hope they do is permanently destroy all the other non-MCU ‘universes',” replied Alarmed_Check4959. “The appearances of characters from pre-MCU Marvel movies have been fun, and continue to be so, but it needs to end before it becomes a ‘Ugh, this again?’ situation.”

“It would be incredibly stupid for Disney to pull a hard reboot. How many fans right now feel invested in the MCU as a sort of sunk cost fallacy?” asked ReverendBlind. “A hard reboot would mean a chance for everyone to walk away and force Marvel to build a brand new fan base from scratch. That'd be a death wish for the MCU.”

“I think a soft reboot is needed. As someone who has gone to 99% of the superhero movies since the MCU started, I think we need to start over,” explained tLM-tRRS-atBHB. “A multiverse story is the perfect opportunity.”

Right now, there’s no telling whether or not Marvel and Disney will reboot the MCU following Avengers: Secret Wars. I guess that all depends on what happens between now and then.

At the very least, fans can get excited for the introduction of the X-Men in the MCU, which will likely happen before or after Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Secret Wars is currently scheduled to be released in cinemas on 7 May 2027, after Avengers: Doomsday on 1 May 2026.

As always, we’ll keep you posted when we learn more about what the future holds for the MCU.
