MCU drops first look at Thanos' family, and we all missed it

Are they his relatives?

Marvel has possibly given us our first look at Thanos’ family, or at least his ancestors, from before his planet died.

Thanos is quite a tragic character when you think about it; not tragic enough to feel sorry for him as he is called the Mad Titan for a reason, but tragic enough where you can understand what drove him to be the power-mad monster he is.

His planet dying out was a big part of his development as a character and it explains why we never see another member of his species, until now.

Marvel Studios concept artist Jerad S. Marantz has shared some art depicting several members of Thanos’ race, all of varying shape, sizes and designs.

These are from Avengers: Infinity War though it’s unclear if they were supposed to show up at some point in the story or if it was to just give an idea of what the species and his planet could have been like.

The members of his race are all depicted wearing robes - pretty simple robes, though some look a bit more regal.

It’s not that far off how Thanos appeared in Avengers: Endgame, at the beginning when he effectively retired from his empire to live a peaceful life only to be interrupted by the Avengers. He wasn’t wearing his armour at the time and was wearing more simple clothing.

We don’t know if any of these characters have some sort of relation to Thanos. They could be some of his family members, or ancestors, or just other people that lived on his planet.

Who knows for sure?

While his story is said and done, it would be nice to see Thanos return again one day, perhaps as a multiversal variant in Avengers: Doomsday that Doctor Doom can defeat to show off how powerful he is like in the comics, and set the stakes for the coming battle.
