MCU fans slam surprise new Avengers lineup and leader

Despite Thunderbolts* having been in cinemas for less than a week, it seems as though Marvel has its own rules when it comes to spoilers as that mysterious asterisk has already been explained via a new marketing campaign.

Since its announcement, Marvel fans have been curious to learn why Thunderbolts* featured an asterisk at the end of its name, but as expected, this was all revealed at the end of the movie which arrived in cinemas on 1 May.

Check out the trailer for Thunderbolts* below!

However, despite it being just a few days since its premiere, Marvel has not wasted any time in showing the entire world what that asterisk means, regardless of if viewers have had the time to see the movie or not.

It would appear as though our Thunderbolts* team are henceforth going to be known as The New Avengers which gives fans their first look at the new “superhero” team since the original Avengers team assembled for the last time in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

This weekend saw the cast of Thunderbolts* travel around America showing off the brand-new name of their movie but it seems as though some Marvel fans are unhappy with our new lineup.

“What about Cap 2, Hulk, Thor, etc? Are they part of the new lineup too or are they literally going to still be 'The Old Avengers'? Very confusing,” one user over on r/MarvelStudioSpoilers asked.

Over on Twitter, things were not looking much better.

“New Avengers? I guess they couldn’t get the old ones to pick up their phones,” user Soulbound TV joked.

A fellow user agreed, adding, “Temu Avengers.”

Despite the criticism, Thunderbolts* is receiving positive reviews across the board with many viewers praising its ambition, interesting characters, and exploration of mental illness.

Whether you want it to call it Thunderbolts* or The New Avengers, it is definitely worth going to check out for yourself over the next few weeks.
